Mirri & MirriNor Exhibiting at Packaging Innovations London 2014

Working with David Bartlett, Owner of Brand It Furniture, the team at Mirri have produced a set of metallic chairs and tables for use at events and POS campaigns. 
David Bartlett is a renowned designer and cardboard engineer and studied design at the Royal College of Art along side artists such as David Hockney, Zandra Rhodes and Terrance Conran. David has worked on commissions with many major names such as Philip Treacy and Alexander McQueen. 
This stunning metallic furniture has been created with MirriNor Display material, a joint venture between Smurfit Kappa Sheetfeeding, and Mirri, a leading worldwide brand of metallic laminated board and paper. The metallic corrugated material is designed to be incredibly strong and is perfect to make furniture.
Mirri, a division of Celloglas will be exhibiting at the Packaging Innovations Show in London. Find us on stand A16 from the 30th of September to the 1st of October at the London Business Design Centre, Islington. 
As per previous years, we will be located next to Smurfit Kappa, and demonstrating MirriNor. MirriNor is a product jointly developed by Mirri and Smurfit Kappa, who have collaborated to produce a ground breaking, lightweight but strong, metallised board, balancing Smurfit Kappa’s expertise in sustainable, corrugated packaging with Mirri’s world-leading experience of metallic paper and board. MirriNor, like other Mirri products, can be used across a range of markets, including multimedia, food and drink packaging and also point of sale, to name but a few.  
There will also be a number of other Mirri and Celloglas innovations including new products, Mirri Sparkle, MirriEco AG and a number of other packaging grades available. 
Mirri swatches, foil swatches and Celloglas lamination swatches will be on the stand, along with some tasty treats packaged to demonstrate our materials in action. Other Mirri solutions on show will be Mirri Pak for HP Indigo, a silver digital product sold globally which allows for on pack personalisation and seasonally focused short runs. 
We will also be showing ideas hot off the press, printed in our in-house marketing suite at Reading. These will be digital packaging mock ups printed on a Roland DG LEJ-640, capable of full colour + white and matt/gloss varnish. Allowing us to demonstrate printed packaging ideas for discussion quickly and cost effectively. 
There will be a number of product samples on show made using Color-Logic, printed under license, using the Process Metallic Color System™ and will demonstrate the wide range of metallic colours and effects available when printing onto Mirri and MirriNor using Color-Logic. 
Case study samples from the drinks sector including Royal Tokaji, Digby Wine and Gusbourne will be at the show, as well as sample boxes from the multi-media and cosmetic sectors.

Hungarian premium wine brand Royal Tokaji creates luxury gift box using MirriNor

Royal Tokaji was founded in Hungary in 1990. The Tokaji wine region has, for many centuries, produced great sweet wines and Royal Tokaji is the acknowledged leader in the renaissance of this legendary Hungarian wine. Sold through various wine merchants and prestigious restaurants across the world Royal Tokaji has gained hundreds of international awards for quality. 

Tokaji wine has a rich history and was the first region in Europe to be classified. 

At the end of the 17th century, Tokaji aszú wines were enjoyed throughout the Royal Courts of Europe. Royal Tokaji has, from the outset, devoted itself to reviving these great wines and to bringing them back to the world’s finest tables. 

To enable and support sales through travel retail and enhance its shelf presence in selected outlets globally Royal Tokaji has created a gift box designed to package its Blue Label (Europe / Asia) and Red Label (US). Despite already being a best seller it was a strong belief by Royal Tokaji that a gift box was required to create high shelf impact at retail, which forms part of the global sales plan for this premium product. 

The design brief was to create a box that communicated the wine’s brand DNA and values whilst driving retail sales on a global scale. The box needed to retain a classic look with a luxurious finish, yet impart a modern exciting visual to attract new followers to the brand.

Charlie Mount, Marketing Director at Royal Tokaji, commented, “We chose MirriNor Rainbow as the design of the box has a modern feel, coupled with what looks like a traditional foil, thus communicating our values of combining modern technology with traditional techniques, we are confident that the box design will lift retail sales.”

The box design was project managed by Charlie himself and his concept of classical values with a modern twist was brought to fruition graphically by the Color-Logic brand services division.  Richard Ainge, Chief Technology Officer UK at Color-Logic used ‘The Process Metallic Color System’ to create the design. 

Charlie commented “The effect on the box was all created using inline printing processes and Color-logic software on MirriNor Rainbow, alleviating the need for further processing to produce the premium result; this dramatically reduced production time as well as resulting in unit cost savings per box”.

The box was created using MirriNor Rainbow which has a holographic effect. This in turn was printed with artwork produced using Color-Logic software, applying a layer of translucent white to soften the holographic effect. Areas of text were released out of the material along with various borders in the design. These were highlighted inline using a reticulation varnish. The printing was provided by one of Color-logic’s UK license holders, Oriel Printing based in Hull, who are themselves leaders in innovative UV Lithographic printing.

MirriNor is a ground breaking, metallised microflute board, specifically designed as part of a joint venture between Norboard, the specialty corrugated board division of Smurfit Kappa Group and Celloglas Mirri, a leading worldwide brand in metallic laminated board and paper.

This combination creates a highly innovative, premium metallic microflute material that offers a high quality finish with great printability, strong environmental credentials and the revolutionary characteristics of Norboard’s T-Flute corrugated board. T flute is the world’s first truly curvable microflute which is also perfect for traditional packaging designs. It is extremely strong yet lightweight making it the perfect partner for protection with sustainability.

MirriNor Display Box For High End Transit Packaging

With one in ten of retail sales happening online*, retail transit packaging is becoming ever more important for protecting goods whilst at the same time conveying brand values.

MirriNor Display board is ideal for retail transit packaging and is available in large format sheets. The FE twin flute is very strong and protective, the Mirri film element allows for a metallic finish on the inside of the box, providing an innovative point of difference. Mirri is widely recognised by brands, retailers and designers as a tool to communicate quality, innovation and brand category leadership.

MirriNor Display is an innovative collaboration between Mirri and the Norboard division of Smurfit Kappa Sheetfeeding. The FE twin flute element from Smurfit Kappa Sheetfeeding has a microflute twin wall which delivers ultimate print quality with traditional double wall corrugated performance.

The Mirri metallic inside can be left purely metallic silver or the box could be printed on either the metallic or white side using a UV flatbed digital printer or through screen printing to communicate brand messages.

The box demonstrated is 335mm x 360mm but varying alternative sizes can be created. The sheets are manufactured with a silver side as standard, but could be created with a multitude of Mirri materials (revert to for all options), including Mirri H Black, Mirri Pak Gold/ Rainbow or Mirri Metals Aluminium. MirriNor Display sheet calliper is 2.75mm. The standard sheet size is 1065mm x 1575mm. Maximum sheet size in silver is 1170 x 2090mm and 1250 x 2090mm in gold, all other colours 1000 x 2090mm.

The sample demonstrated is carrying high-end drinks packaging, but MirriNor Display could easily be used to transit branded clothing, cosmetics or any other consumer goods.
